Welcome to the Cherry Cortez Photography Blog! To view some of my work, please go to the above menu and click on the link 'My Portfolio'. Feel free to browse around my blog and leave me a message in the 'comments' section of a post...i'd love to hear from ya!!

My name is Cherry and i am a professional newborn, maternity, child and family photographer located just outside of Toronto, Ontario. I'm a mother to three, wife to one, living in the burbs here in Canada. I dabble into a bit of everything. IT nerd / sewer / crafter / photographer / mommy and wife full-time. i wouldn't have it any other way :)

My style is simple. It's a touch of traditional studio mixed in with a whole lotta modern lifestyle. i love to capture natural, candid moments. You won't hear me asking your children to say 'cheese'...instead, i'll talk to them, sing with them and you may even catch me making silly jokes, faces and noises ;). I LOVE my job. I will capture your child's spirit, laugh and personality. I'll capture the anticipation and excitement while you are expecting or the tears of joy as you snuggle up with your newborn. Capturing your REAL life is what i'm all about.

Call or email me today....i'd love to chat with you.

{not so tiny baby J.} - Durham Region Newborn photographer

What a sweetheart this little gal is.  Meet Baby J who is 9 days old here.  She came into this world weighing a remarkable 8lbs 13 ozs –bless her mom’s heart!! Congrats G and A — she’s just so scrumputious!!

{little newborn M.}

Remember this couple?  They welcomed their youngest into their family recently and i had the pleasure of photographing him at 13 days old.  It was a long night and took some of **my**  :) magical touch to get him off to dreamland (i’m sure you’ll agree, right daddy M?!?!).

Newborn sessions are my longest sessions due to diaper changes, feeding, prop **accidents** :) , more feeding and just having cuddle time with mom and dad…..BUT i have to admit —they are my favourite subjects to photograph.  All their innocence and purity just melts my heart and makes me want to capture life at its finest.

Here is their newest sweet addition to their family….

{mr. N. and miss GG.}

I’ve got to keep this short and sweet but just wanted to post a couple of sneak-peeks for two of my wonderful clients.  They both had the same thing in mind — fall and Christmas photos.

Look at how cute this little grin is….love how she’s biting on her lip…so sweet :)

N.’s mom picked this location and look at this gorgeous tree we were able to find.

{busy weekend.}

What a busy Saturday we had!  One 7 month old, one toddler, one little girl all the way from Cali. , a family of 5 and i even tried to squeeze in taking photos of my own  kids and getting my best friend (who’s not a photographer) to take some shots of me and my family (but i’ll save that for another post :) ).  She was such a trooper and did an amazing job - must be the artist in her (check her out at Jessie Boy Blue ) .

Here are a couple of images from the weekend…

Meet gorgeous little L.

{fall guy.}

Everytime i meet up with one of my clients i always think to myself, ‘gosh…i get to photograph the cutest kids’.  Can i just tell you how cute this little man was?  Meet Mr. N…so full of style and ready to conquer the world :)

Here’s a little sneak peek for you D and J.  Hope this will hold you over until i get your gallery up :)

{full swing into fall….}

Have i mentioned that i just LOVE fall?  it’s my favourite time of year to capture some fun and whimsical outdoor portraits.  I LOVE  everything about it…from the colours and the clothes to the crispy bite of the morning air.  Did i mention i love the clothing? it’s so fun to layer clothing.  I’m defintiely an accessory girl (as you can probably tell from my website with all the hats that i use on newborns) and all the different scarves and hats for fall just make me smile :) .

Here is a recent family that i had the opportunity to photograph.  M and D have 4 children.  I only know a handful of people that have more than three kids and i can attest that moms to 4 or more children have the most patient demeanor.  After meeting D i can say, yes my theory still stands…every mom that i know that has 4 or more kids all have the same personality — easy going, patient and genuinely caring.  She just never seemed rushed and everytime one of her kids had something to say, she listened…genuinely listened.  You could just tell that she was a great mom :) .

M and D’s kids were too cute.  when mom said she wanted fall photos, she knew exactly what she wanted.  her two girls came out of the car in their fabulous fall sweaters, sweater dresses and the boys had on cute sweaters and jackets.  mom even came prepared with some hats and scarves.  i love it!! We almost had to reschedule this session due to the weather but am glad we still tried before we called it quits because once we got to our location, we didn’t see a drop of rain.  Light was fading fast but we managed to get some great shots.  Here are a few of my favourties…

This one is definitely my new FAV fall photo…

If you’re interested in having a fall session, please drop me an email at info@cherrycortez.com or call 647.400.6538.

{urban maternity.}

This couple was so fun to shoot.  They’re expecting their first child in 4 weeks and were up for anything when i had mentioned doing their maternity shoot downtown. I love it when a client trusts me enough to let the creative side of me run free.  We met early in the morning and G and A were all game when i asked her to bare her belly in the heart of downtown.  They both laughed at me when i pulled out this scarf from my goody bag but i must say, ‘Doesn’t she look awesome?’  Congrats to you both….i can’t wait to meet your little one :) .  Here are a couple of images to tide you over until i get your gallery up….

I love these images of her belly and toes :) .   When i saw her sandals and her pretty toenails i knew i just had to capture it!! Kudos to G for having such pretty toenails so far along in her pregnancy.  I know by 30 weeks, there was NO way i could bend over and reach my toes!!

{2008 CCP Holiday Cards Are Here!!…and New Updated Website!!}

If you haven’t noticed, the website has been updated!  It has been a work in progress for the last month and i guess i should say that it is still ‘a work in progress’.  It has been a painstaking and daunting procedure to say the least but i hated that my images were so small on the screen — so i’ve been kicking myself to get it done.  Now images are sized at full screen …yippee!!  Visit the new Cherry Cortez Photography Website to see the fresh new look :) .  Over the next few weeks I’ll be updating the galleries with new images so check back to see the changes!!

I can’t believe it’s that time of year again!  Fall has started and it’s time to start thinking about the holiday season.

This year i’m so excited to be offering these beautiful cards.  Each card is 5×7 and has a front and a back.  Since the back has plenty of space there’s room to add some personal text.  A set of 24 cards is $75 and $50 for each additional set.  These cards are available to current clients and past clients.  If you are a client who’s had a session previously with me, just email me at info@cherrycortez.com or call me at 647.400.6538 and we can get you started on your Christmas cards.  Don’t forget to place your orders before the deadline - November 8th 2008.

{….and belly makes six.}

i had the pleasure of photographing this beautiful family who is expecting their fourth.  These people are just so near and dear to us and i was absolutely honoured when L asked me to capture her ‘family maternity shots’.  My husband and L’s husband grew up together so i’ve known them since it was just the two of them in their dating stage.  I’ve always had a gut feeling they were going to have a big family….it just suited them.  So…it was no shock to us when they told us that they were expecting!!  Now look at them….on their way to being a family of six.  How amazing is that :) ?? L is due in 3 weeks and i must say — she looks absolutely breathtaking!!  Just wanted to show you some of my favourites…i hope you love them as much as i do :).  We’ll be waiting for the big news ;)

Love,

–cherry.

BTW, i love this first image.  i LOVE how each of the children are doing their own thing.  The boy being the joker, the girl in the middle being all girly and ‘posing’ for me and their littlest one just being cute and trying to stay up….soooo them!

{baby planners…bittersweet for me….}

My baby planner clients are so bittersweet for me. I love watching them all grow up and this little girl was no exception.  We did mom’s maternity photos, baby’s newborn, 6 month and now 1 year shots. it’s amazing at how the time flies. i can’t help but feel a little sad when it’s time for their last session :( .

Here’s a little sneak-peek for you ‘C’ and ‘A’.  It was an absolute pleasure and honor to watch your little girl grow up.

This session was done at their home. we did some indoor and outdoor shots, all natural light. I love the fall….not looking forward to those dreaded winter months!
