R’s sister had called me to book this session for her sweet newborn niece.  when i asked how old she was, i was told she was just born.  For me, a baby ‘just born’ is under a week old because i normally photograph  newborns between 3 to 6 days old but definitely before 10 days.  There is a small timeframe that newborns are ‘newborn’.  After the two week period, they just don’t curl as well and  they just aren’t as tiny.  if  a family is looking for ‘newborn’ images  (baskets, curled) and the baby is older than 10 days, there is a possibility that those images may not happen.  Now there are some families that prefer their baby to look older and that’s perfectly fine (and yes! i do photograph babies older than 10 days).  When i found out this baby was 6 weeks old i was a little unsure how the ‘newborn’ session would go.  I have been known to work my magic and achieve newborn style images with babies older than 10 days….i have gotten some 4 week olds that i have managed to curl and soothe off to dreamland…..but definitely have never tried to get ‘newborn’ images from a 6 week old.  ….until i met Miss Ariana. She proved me wrong, let me work my magic  and slept and curled beautifully for her session.

I must say….this family was so. much. fun.   Newlyweds, new home, new baby….such a great adventure to start together.  R lived and grew up in the beaches where my studio is located.  L talked about how they used to go on long walks on the boardwalk and had numerous dates on the beach.  they giggled and R would probably even say L exaggerated a bit when he recollected about how they met…or should i say how she seduced him….isn’t that right L???  that’s okay…we’ll let L tell it like he wants but  R and i know the real story .  So sweet to see them enjoying life’s blessings.

L and R have this new baby girl who is just gorgeous….i can tell they are going to be a wonderful family.

Mr. D was one of the oldest newborns that i’ve seen in awhile.  He was oh so persistent and didn’t want to sleep for us.  He did eventually give in for a few moments here and there and we were able to capture these gorgeous images with his parents.  i can’t tell you how beautiful this family is…both inside and out.  dad and mom fit into their new roles so well.  dad was so sweet being ever so attentive with mom and his new son.  mom was so nuturing and i would find her whispering sweet sounds to her little boy to soothe him.  All the while i could see their joy, pride and love in their gentle touch.  So sweet to be a witness of love.

These are some of the little ones that i had the amazing opportunity to photograph since i reopened after the holidays.  Little ones, big ones, they all have their own personalities beginning at just a few days old.

Miss S.  My first newborn of 2010.  Fiesty and oh so strong…yet so very delicate.

Miss A.  at her 6 month session was full of smiles.

Miss C.   Absolutely and most definitely the biggest little ham yet.  Wait till you see her gallery and all her adorable faces.  i just puffy heart the one of her and her baby.

Miss M at 1 Year old was full of poses infront of the camera.  LOVE her mom’s vintage rocking chair from her own childhood.

This has got to be one of my favourite ages – 8  months. Actually, anywhere between 6 and 9 months is so much fun. This age brings lots of smiles, unbalanced wobbley sits, lots of rolling and drool and a whole lotta outfit changes….and they can’t get away from me to boot!  Mr M sure is a mini-me of mom and dad — lots of character and sporting the super cool threads.  we were able to capture a variety of images cause mom came super prepared with different hats, jackets and outfit changes.  C’mon….just look at that smile….he’s definitely a heartbreaker in the makin’.

I’m just about done my holiday rush.   A few more galleries to get out and the last of the sessions for the year will be next week.  Here are some sneak peeks for some of you that are still waiting on your galleries. I’ve had some absolute cuties come into the studio the last few weeks.

Big, big, BIG news that has me so overjoyed.  As of last month, Cherry Cortez Photography has officially moved into our very own storefront Studio!  Our studio’s new home is located in Pickering’s Frenchman’s Bay Marina, steps (literally steps!!)  from the Pickering beach and boardwalk.  We are no longer ‘just east’ of Toronto but now about a short 2 minute drive just east of Toronto.    The Cherry Cortez Photography Studio is nestled between restaurants on the marina, spas, dessert cafes, gift shops and other wonderful retailers.  I’m so excited about this new adventure…the shooting possibilities are endless with immediate access to the beach, shops, stone sidewalks and waterfront, not to mention we have some yummy studio floors and wonderful natural light pouring into the studio.  God has truly blessed me and am so very thankful.  Thanks to our wonderful clients who have referred me time and again, my family and friends who have supported me since day one and to my amazing hubby who worked overtime to get this studio looking as amazing as it does in record time…..because of each and every one of you, we’ve been able to take this huge step in the business.   I am so in love with this new space and it’s surroundings and i know my clients are going to love it as well .

As of last month, all in-studio sessions have been held at the new location.   The studio will continue to remain open *by appointment only*.

The studio has been quite busy the last couple of months.  We’ve seen many, many, MANY newborns and have been scoping out new products, new marketing ideas and other wonderful things and i have been working on updating this blog.   Big news is about to be revealed in the next few weeks so stay tuned and be sure to sign up for the email newsletter. What is a mini-session?  A ‘mini’ is a quick 20 minute session – how easy is that?! You get to choose between two great packages that suit everyone’s need and tastes.   Perfect to help with all your gift giving dilemmas (an 8×10 for aunt judith, an 11×14 for grandma and grandpa…).  If you’re looking to get some holiday cards done, the ‘Joy Captured’ package includes holiday cards.  You can choose between this year’s cards or even last year’s cards — and i must admit, they are just beautiful:: Press printed 5×7 double sided cards in your choice of linen, watercolor, or pearl finish.  The minis are also great for those that don’t want a full session just yet but would still love to capture their baby at 6 months or 3 months or to capture your belly if you are expecting or just to have your family photos updated.
